FAQ

Where are you located?

My studio is located in Fredericksburg, VA. Full details and directions will be shared once your session is booked.

Do you provide outfits or do I bring my own?

Both! I have a curated client closet that I am continuously building, with maternity gowns, newborn outfits and wraps, and children's outfits (0-4 years). Please feel welcome to bring personal items or inquire what I currently have available!

Can siblings or family members be included?

Yes! Depending on the session, most already have built in time to allow for family portraits. Please let me know prior to your session if this is something you would like included, and I will let you know if an additional cost is required!

When should I book my session?

I recommend booking 2-3 months in advance to secure your preferred date, most specifically for newborn and maternity sessions which are time sensitive. However, I always do my best to accommodate. My busiest time of year is typically October thru December. If you are booking family portraits and need your final gallery returned in time for holiday cards, please reach out prior to November so I can ensure there is enough time for the session as well as beautiful edits.

When is the best time for maternity photos?

Between 28-34 weeks, when your baby bump is beautifully round but you're still comfortable moving and posing.

What should I wear?

I offer access to my maternity closet with gowns and dresses designed to flatter all body types. You can of course bring your own outfits if you prefer.

When is the best time to photography my newborn?

Ideally between 5-14 days old for the curled, sleepy poses. I also photograph older newborns with a more natural, lifestyle approach.

How do I book a date when I don't know when the baby will be born?

I always book your due date and then anticipate the session occurring sometime within the two weeks after that. Babies come on their own schedule, and the timing can be very unpredictable. Do not stress! I leave flexibility in my schedule to make sure I can get your sweet baby in the studio shortly after they're born, whenever that may be. I keep in contact with you as your due date gets closer, and I will adjust your session date accordingly once you've informed me of their arrival.

How long does a newborn session last?

Sessions typically last between 2-4 hours, allowing time for feeding, changing, and soothing breaks. If baby is fussy, we just chill until they're content. It is all on their timing and temperament. I go with the flow and let them lead.

Do I need to bring props?

No, the studio is fully stocked with wraps, props, swaddles, headbands, etc. If you have sentimental items you would like included, I can incorporate them.

What ages are considered milestone sessions?

Most families choose 3 months, 6-9 months (sitter stage) and 1 year. These sessions are perfect for capturing your child's growth and personality. I also LOVE doing birthday milestones for any age. I personally do a styled shoot every year for my daughter's birthday. I may enjoy it more than she does, but some day she'll probably thank me...that's what I tell myself anyway.

Do you provide the cake for a cake smash?

I typically do not. However if desired, I can order a smash cake for an additional fee. I always welcome parents to bring a cake that matches their vision.

Do you photograph families in the studio or outdoors?

Both! Studio is wonderful for timeless portraits, while outdoor sessions offer a natural backdrop. We'll choose the location that fits your family best. Please note: I have limited outdoor golden hour sessions available.

What if my kids don't cooperate?

Most kids won't. Haha. Don't worry, it is completely normal. I use playful prompts and ridiculous noises to get children to laugh and smile at the camera. I always strive to keep the session fun and relaxed so I can capture authentic expressions. That being said, if your child does not want to smile or be photographed, I cannot guarantee the outcome of your gallery. I'm usually fairly successful at getting frame worthy moments though.

When will we receive our photos?

Your gallery will be ready in about 2–4 weeks. I’ll keep you updated along the way! Within the first two weeks after your session, you’ll receive a proof gallery to review and select your favorite images. Once your selections are made, I’ll carefully hand-edit each one. Your final gallery will then be delivered, where you can download your digital files and order prints, wall art, holiday cards, and other keepsakes directly.
