Military families do newborn photography differently and after photographing so many of them here in the Fredericksburg and Quantico area, I've learned that differences matter. PCS orders don't care about due dates. Deployments don't wait for the two-week sleepy window. And grandparents are rarely twenty minutes away; sometimes they're an ocean away.
This studio is veteran-owned, military families are a big part of who we serve, and this guide is for you.
The timeline challenges (and how we work around them)
"What if my husband deploys before the due date?" I've planned around this more than once. If your partner's window is tight, we can schedule a maternity session that celebrates all three of you before departure, then do the newborn session when baby arrives and design the gallery so it tells one continuous story. Some families also split the newborn session: baby-led portraits now, family portraits at homecoming.
Due dates are unpredictable; military schedules are worse. My booking system is built for it. I reserve your due date, leave flexibility in my calendar for the two weeks after, and we lock the real session date once baby decides to show up. If orders move, we move. I keep in contact as your date approaches, and I genuinely mean it when I say: do not stress about this part.
Homecoming photos. If your timeline includes a homecoming, tell me. Documenting dad meeting the baby, whether that's day 5 or month 5, is some of the most meaningful work I get to do. (Yes, I'll be the one crying behind the camera.)
Prints that travel to faraway family
When grandma is a long distance away, digital files in a text thread aren't enough. Every session includes lifetime printing rights and access to a professional print lab through your gallery, so heirloom prints, albums, and holiday cards can ship straight to family in other states (or other countries). For a lot of my military families, the gallery becomes the family reunion.
The practical details
Newborn sessions at my private Fredericksburg studio — about 25 minutes south of MCB Quantico, an easy run down I-95 range from $300 to $850, all listed openly on the pricing page. Active-duty military and first responders receive 10% off session packages, always it's not a promotion, it's a policy. The studio itself is private and calm, with a comfortable space to feed, a coffee bar, and a "Dad Den" that has seen many a uniform snoozing in it mid-session. No judgment. You've earned it.
Quick answers
Do you offer a military discount?
Yes — 10% off session packages for active-duty servicemembers and first responders, every session, no code needed. Just mention it when you book.
We might PCS soon — should we still book?
Yes, and tell me your window. I'd rather build a flexible plan with you than have you miss this stage entirely. Galleries and printing rights go with you wherever you're stationed next.
Can we include the uniform?
Absolutely, uniforms, flags, dog tags, a deployment bear. Meaningful pieces make the most personal portraits, and I'll style around them with care.
How far in advance should we book?
Second trimester is ideal, but military timelines get grace, reach out whenever you know yours, even if it's late. I always do my best to make it work.
From one military family to another — we'd be honored to photograph yours.
